This MSC project – Berea Christian Centre – has been converting a worn-out, outdated building from 1970’s into a multi-purpose, modern facility. The Centre serves Bible-believing church groups in Central Europe, and meets the needs of local evangelism and educational programs.
The Berea Centre is located in Harmonia, a recreational region situated in the picturesque Little Carpathian mountains of south-western Slovakia, near the Capital city of Bratislava (about 1.5 hours from the Vienna International airport).
The original building had 12 rooms for accommodation and was used as a retreat centre for government employees in communist Czechoslovakia. Today, the reconstructed facility has 26 rooms, apartments and suites, and can accommodate up to 65 people. It also features a spacious auditorium, conference and library rooms and a fully equipped kitchen (the completion of the kitchen and the new dining area are two of the key projects scheduled for 2020).
Even though the dining hall and government-certified kitchen facilities are still being finalized, the Centre is already being used for church retreats, youth camps, Bible training events, conferences, evangelistic meetings, marriage seminars, leadership courses and youth rallies.
Individual families and missionaries find the Berea Centre to be a desirable place for family retreats and to get some much-needed rest.
The project and the ministry of the Berea Centre is a result of a vision of Bible-believing churches in Slovakia and their desire to advance the gospel in this ex-communist part of Europe. The support of many volunteers and groups who have come to help out from more than 12 countries (including Canada) and the donations received for this project are greatly appreciated.
The current work activities include building of proper parking spaces, support walls to prevent landslides from affecting the parking area, kitchen equipment procurement, new playground construction and general landscaping.
