Trying to keep a mission station the size of Chitokoloki going and keeping things maintained is a very daunting and large challenge. A visitor who just left last week remarked that it is like managing a village or a small town. Every week it seems we have issues and attention needed to either, water, electricity, repairs of buildings, houses, equipment and also the numerous vehicles and quad bikes. Last week 2 of our big pumps in the river were not working so needed to be brought out and fixed. The pumps fill our overhead tank that holds 82,000 liters of water. This exercise required going into the river and diving down to unhook the pumps so they could be brought to land, all the time keeping an eye out for the lurking crocodiles that can attack very suddenly. So far we have had no close incidents.
