The Maktaba

A steady stream of people is coming into the Maktaba (library). Some come in for reading glasses or New Testaments which we offer for free, others come with Bible questions, and still others come to see the films we show in the afternoon. We pray for their salvation.

Door-to-door

I have started doing home visits with two friends. We spend about 30 minutes at each house. After sharing and answering questions, we give them a New Testament in English and Arabic. Pray with us for the many who need the Lord!

Widows and abandoned wives

Ruth’s weekly ministry to widows and abandoned wives never wanes. There are about 180 women on her list. She sees between 20 and 30 every week on rotation. Pray for wisdom as she and her two helpers listen to, share God’s Word, and pray with these ladies.

Mostly unreached

We had 5 days of intensive training for 4 men who come from an area of the country that is mostly unreached. Pray for each of these men as they use the Bibles, commentaries, and training they were given to teach others. We are thankful for the report that some are already working.

We can provide clean water

The new property for the Disciples of Jesus school just got a well! The drilling team hit the water at 270 feet, and plenty of it. Praise the Lord with us! We can now move forward with construction and provide clean water for families in the nearby community.

A new school year

On January 10, the Disciples of Jesus School began a new school year with 7 new students. Please pray for deep spiritual hunger and steadfast commitment by each student. Pray for us as we seek to teach and nurture them spiritually.

Village churches

We have continued to visit village churches whenever possible. Please join us in praying for these churches to be salt and light in their communities. There are also Christmas celebrations at the church in weeks ahead. Pray that God’s Word would bear fruit, as some who normally don’t attend church may be coming for these special events.

Bible school graduation

We have visited several churches with the Disciples of Jesus Bible school students. We are now preparing for graduation, which will take place on October 23. Please pray for the students to serve the Lord as they return to their home churches and for the spiritual growth of the assemblies here.

Restrictions and costs

We spent a week with British and German mission workers for a joint Annual Meeting. It was a blessing to hear reports from other parts of Tanzania and share each other’s experiences. Please pray that if it is the Lord’s will, the doors will be kept open for mission workers to continue serving in this vast and needy land.

The journey back

John’s mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which has spread to other areas in her body. We began to sense the Lord telling us we needed to return to walk with her through this cancer journey. After much prayer, we have made plans to return to NC in April. Our friend, a national mission worker, is getting ready to go back to the mostly-unreached Wataturu tribe today to encourage and teach the 2 small gatherings of believers and continue evangelizing. Please pray for this brother and that there would be open doors for the Gospel.

The outreach to the village of Gambazi was well received and the gospel seed was planted in the hearts of those who attended.
